November 3, 2015 Election: Local Candidates and Issues.


Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd.

There are only local races and issues on the ballot that your parents will be voting on. All of the contested races had candidates or representatives speak at the October 15 Candidates night that was sponsored by the League of Women Voters at Harmon. Information and Ads from all candidates will be posted to the bulletin board by Mr. Frankmann's room for your consideration. And- here are the contested races and issues. What do you know and think about them? Who or what would you vote for or against and why if you were 18 and registered to vote?

Aurora City Council
Ward 2- Choose 1: Denny Kovach or Robert Galaska
Ward 6- Choose 1: Harold Hatridge or Melissa Franco

Aurora School Board
Choose 2: Zena Elliott, Annie Grohe, Chuck Maruniak

Portage County Issues
26- Portage County District Library- Additional Tax Levy- 1 mill
27- Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities- Renewal Tax Levy- 1.8 mills

State Issues
State Issue 1- For or Against- Creates a bipartisan, public process for drawing legislative districts
State Issue 2- For or Against- Anti-monopoly amendment; protects the initiative process from being used for personal economic benefit
State Issue 3- For or Against- Grants a monopoly for the commercial production and sale of marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes

We will be having a mock election in which you will vote on all of these on Monday, November 2, the first day of class back from DC. After that, this discussion will continue about the results of the election...
